clustered servers patching a challenge to Altiris patch mangement solution 7.1

ソリューションが必要です

Hi there,

We have quite a large number of windows clustered servers in my company. This is a challenge case for me. I hope you have done this or have an idea to it for this case. It would be big help.

Say, I have 4 windows servers in a cluster, they are abc-1, abc-2, xyz-1, xyz-2, but only allow to bring down 2at a time, either abc-1 and xyz-1 or abc-2 and xyz-2. How to patch them?

I created 2 filters, filter1 is for abc-1 and xyz-1 and filter2 is for abc-2 and xyz-2

I created 2 software update plug-in policies which cloned from Default Software Update Plug-in Policy:

***clustered server software update plug-in policy 1 for filter1, start time is 00:30 AM, end time is 2:30 AM, a scheduled restart after security update installation is at 2:15 AM.

***clustered server software update plug-in policy 2 for filter2, start time is at 3:00 AM, end time is 5:00 AM, a scheduled restart after security update installation is at 4:45 AM

I created 2 software update policies:

+++ Patch Remediation for June 2013 to apply to targets of both filter1 and filter2 (defined above)

+++ Patch Remediation for July 2013 to apply to targets of both filter1 and filter2.

I also created 2 tasks for do initial restart of filter1 and filter2. Both tasks are cloned from Power Control:

### clustered servers 1 initial restart to have filter1 restart at 00:15 AM

### clustered servers 2 initial restart to have filter2 restart at 2:45 AM

As of right now, I have to wake up at night to make sure that filter1 (abc-1 and xyz-1) to be done with patching, restart, up and running, before I allow filter 2 (abc-2 and xyz-2) to be down and patched, then be restart to be up and running.

My questions and I really need help from the community is that do we have a way to condition that if server abc-1 and xyz-1 in filter1 successfully patched, up and running, then proceed to bring down server abc-2 and xyz-2 in filter2 to be reboot and patched. If abc-1 and xyz-2 in filter1 are not up for any reason after being patched, them proceed to abort, not to allow abc-2 and xyz-2 in filter 2 to be reboot and patched.

Please advise if you need any further info.

Thank you so much, in advance, for your teaching

Charlie.
