Data retention on RDX cartridges

How do I setup the following with Backup Exec 2012 (just need to know the Overwrite, Append, Retention, etc. details)?

Have five 1 GB RDX drive cartridges and 1 RDX drive.

Want to setup a Full night backup so that it backups to whatever cartridge I put in (300 GB each night).

I calculate that I should be easily have 3 full backups on each cartridge for the next few years.

I want it to only overwrite the data on the cartridge if it’s over 3 weeks old, unless there is not enough room left, then overwrite the oldest week that’s on the cartridge.

I always want it to append to the cartridge, only deleting oldest week’s data as needed.

Here’s a basic example of how it should run for 2 months, except on Holidays it may get off course a little bit.

Start of new week

Month 1, Day 1  - Full backup to RDX cartridge 1 (300 GB).

Month 1, Day 2  - Full backup to RDX cartridge 2 (300 GB).

Month 1, Day 3  - Full backup to RDX cartridge 3 (300 GB).

Month 1, Day 4  - Full backup to RDX cartridge 4 (300 GB).

Month 1, Day 5  - Full backup to RDX cartridge 5 (300 GB).

Skip day 6 and 7

Start of 2nd new week

Month 1, Day 8   - Full backup to RDX cartridge 1 - should now have 2 Full backups (Month 1, Day 1 and 8) – now cartridge should have 600 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 9   - Full backup to RDX cartridge 2 - should now have 2 Full backups (Month 1, Day 2 and 9) – now cartridge should have 600 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 10 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 3 - should now have 2 Full backups (Month 1, Day 3 and 10) – now cartridge should have 600 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 11 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 4 - should now have 2 Full backups (Month 1, Day 4 and 11) – now cartridge should have 600 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 12 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 5 - should now have 2 Full backups (Month 1, Day 5 and 12) – now cartridge should have 600 GB of data.

Skip day 13 and 14

Start of 3rd  new week

Month 1, Day 15 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 1 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 1, 8, and 15) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 16 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 2 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 2, 9, and 16) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 17 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 3 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 3, 10, and 17) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 18 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 4 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 4, 11, and 18) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 19 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 5 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 5, 12, and 19) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Skip day 20 and 21

Start of 4th new week – starting with each of these cartridges – the oldest data (Month 1, Day 1 – 5 respectfully) should be wiped out

Month 1, Day 22 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 1 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 8, 15, and 22) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 23 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 2 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 9, 16, and 23) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 24 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 3 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 10, 17, and 24) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 25 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 4 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 11, 18,  and 25) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Month 1, Day 26 - Full backup to RDX cartridge 5 - should now have 3 Full backups (Month 1, Day 12, 19, and 26) – now cartridge should have 900 GB of data.

Skip day 27 and 28

With this plan, I essentially should always have 3 full weeks of backups on the cartridges among the 5 disks.

Thanks,

David
