Do I have to add a backup host to validate credentials if I'm going to use media servers as backup hosts?

we are creating a new NBU domain. Master is Linux Suse 11. NBU is 7504. and I have a doubt. We are going to use the media servers (suse 11) as backup hosts for the vmware backups. When I try to add a virtual center credentials, the window remains open for ever.

We haven't added any backup host, because we are not going to use them. My question is: do i have to add all media servers as backup host in the master host properties? Is it necessary to add at least one backup host to validate credential, being able to delete it afterwards?
