What Platform to run Master Server on

We are looking to buy a new server for our master server.   It was an HP-UX box and when we had to do a quick upgrade for bug fix reasons, Symantec loaned us an appliance.    We want to move the master server off of the appliance onto it's final destination.   The question is what platform to use.   The media servers are mostly Solaris with a couple of Netbackup appliances, so I was leaning towards Solaris SPARC for the master.   We had a local vendor do an assessment and they recommended Linux RedHat.   I am interested in other peoples opinions and experiences.
